The Department of Shipping & Maritime Science (SMS), Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) successfully organized its Department Excursion 2026- Day-Long River Cruise on the Shitalakshya River on Friday, 31 July 2026. 

The excursion brought together students, faculty members, officers and staff, alumni, and their friends and family, providing an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships beyond the classroom while celebrating the spirit of the maritime profession.

The day-long river cruise offered participants a unique blend of experiential learning, networking, and recreation. As the vessel navigated the historic Shitalakshya River, participants enjoyed Bangladesh's scenic riverine landscape, observed busy inland waterway traffic, and experienced the dynamic operations of one of the country's most significant industrial river corridors. The journey provided valuable exposure to real-world maritime operations while fostering teamwork and camaraderie among participants.

A major highlight of the excursion was the opportunity to observe several leading industrial establishments located along the river route. Participants visited the Petromax LPG Dhaka Plant in Rupganj, Jamuna Spacetech Joint Venture Limited, Omera LPG, and the AK Khan Economic Zone. These visits provided practical insights into Bangladesh's growing industrial, logistics, and energy sectors, demonstrating the critical role of inland waterways and maritime transportation in facilitating industrial development, supply chain management, and sustainable economic growth.

The program followed a well-organized itinerary, including transportation from the CUB campus, boarding the river cruise, welcome refreshments, Jummah prayer, lunch, a coffee break, industrial visits, and a safe return to the university campus. Throughout the journey, participants witnessed the close relationship between Bangladesh's river transport system, industrial development, and maritime commerce, reinforcing the practical knowledge gained through their academic studies.
