The Department of Shipping and Maritime Science of Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) is set to celebrate the International Day of the Seafarer 2026 through a special webinar on 25 June 2026 (Thursday) from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM (BST) via Zoom.

The webinar, themed “Unsung Heroes: The Everyday People Behind Our Global Economy,” aims to recognize the invaluable contributions of seafarers who play a critical role in sustaining international trade and global supply chains.

The event will begin with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. H. M. Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor of Canadian University of Bangladesh. The webinar will feature distinguished speakers from academia and the maritime industry, including Mirza Saifur Rahman, Chief Engineer and Ship Surveyor of the Department of Shipping under the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh; Engr. Md. Sakhawat Hossain, President of BMAAA, Chairman of Western Marine Services Ltd., and a renowned Global Maritime Advisor and Shipbuilding Expert; and Mo Mostafa Bala, Research Associate and Senior Lecturer from the University of Lincoln, Dartmouth, UK. Capt. Md. Nasir Uddin, Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Shipping and Maritime Science at Canadian University of Bangladesh, will serve as both moderator and speaker.

According to the organizers, the webinar will provide a platform for maritime professionals, researchers, students, and industry stakeholders to exchange views on the challenges, contributions, and future prospects of the global seafaring community.
