
Seminar on Sustainable Maritime Future Under Leadership of Capt. Md Nasir Uddin
The Department of Shipping and Maritime Science, in collaboration with the Maritime Science Club, Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB), successfully organized a timely and forward-looking seminar titled:
"Towards a Sustainable Future: Navigating the Modern Maritime Era with Autonomous Ships, Ship Recycling, and Alternative Marine Fuels” on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the University Auditorium.
The seminar was organized under the leadership of Captain Nasir Uddin, Chairman of the Department, whose vision and proactive initiative played a key role in making the event a reality. His ongoing commitment to integrating global maritime trends into student learning has made a strong impact on the department’s academic environment.

The seminar began with a welcome speech delivered by Professor Dr. HM Jahirul Haque, Honorable Vice Chancellor of CUB, who highlighted the importance of innovation, sustainability, and international collaboration in maritime education.
The session featured distinguished maritime professionals who delivered insightful presentations on pressing issues and innovations reshaping the global maritime landscape:
Captain Zakirul Bhuiyan, Associate Professor at Solent University, UK, and Director of the Warsash MASS Research Centre, shared expert insights on autonomous ship technologies and how they are redefining navigation, safety, and efficiency at sea.
MarEngr Obaidullah Ibne Bashir, Engineer and Ship Surveyor & Examiner at the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh, spoke on regulatory readiness and workforce adaptation needed to implement sustainable maritime systems.
MarEngr Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Marine Ship Recycling Consultant at Lloyd Academy, UK, emphasized the urgent need for eco-friendly ship recycling practices and the shift toward Bangladesh to take full advantage of IMO initiative to reach zero cargo emission comply with Hongkong.
The seminar attracted a large student audience, eager to learn about the sustainable future of shipping. Attendees participated in an engaging Q&A session, reflecting strong interest in innovation, career opportunities, and global maritime trends.
Registrar A. S. M. G. Faruk and Heads of Other Departments were also present at the seminar, showing strong institutional support and solidarity.
