Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) is a government-owned entity established with the objective of operating Bangladesh's inaugural satellite, the Bangabandhu Satellite-1. Formed on August 15, 2017, the company was allocated a capital of 50 billion BDT, with a paid-up capital of five billion BDT, following approval at a Cabinet meeting in July 2017. The company operates under the auspices of SPARRSO, the national space agency of Bangladesh, and currently employs 35 individuals, including the Managing Director and Company Secretary.
The Bangabandhu Satellite-1, a landmark achievement for Bangladesh, was launched through a collaborative effort with the French company Thales Alenia Space. It represents the nation's first venture into satellite ownership and operation. Thales Alenia Space has established ground control stations in Gazipur and Rangamati Districts to oversee satellite operations.
Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited and Glavkosmos, a subsidiary of the Russian State Space Corporation Roscosmos, have signed a memorandum of cooperation in relation to the manufacturing and launching of the Bangabandhu Satellite-2 Earth observation satellite system.
