CUB Marks World Maritime Day With Maritime Obligations, Campus Festivities, and Unity
Canadian University’s Dept. of Shipping & Maritime Science and Maritime Science Club commemorated World Maritime Day with a vibrant, day-long celebration filled with educational, recreational, and unifying activities. The programme started with the opening remarks by Capt. Md Nasir Uddin., Chairman of the Department, and graced by the presence of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, who delivered inspiring speeches highlighting the importance of maritime education and sustainable development in shipping and logistics.
The celebrations kicked off with an energetic rally held in front of the university’s City Campus, where faculty members, students, and staff joined together in maritime-themed banners and chants to mark the occasion. Following the rally, participants visited Hatirjheel, soaking in the urban waterside atmosphere before heading towards the Turag River to observe its current ecological and navigational conditions. This river visit was not only scenic but also educational, prompting discussions on water pollution and the importance of preserving inland waterways.
The journey continued to Canadian University’s Main Campus in Purbachal, where a delightful lunch was served, and offering participant’s time to relax and reflect. After the meal, students and faculty shared their valuable insights and experiences from the day, emphasizing the role of field exposure in maritime education.

To further build camaraderie and team spirit, a friendly football match was held between teachers and students — a spirited game that brought laughter and cheer to all attendees. The celebration concluded with a tranquil visit to the Mini Shalbon Forest, where participants enjoyed a refreshing cup of tea amid nature, rounding off a well-balanced mix of awareness, adventure, and bonding.
All activities were seamlessly coordinated under the leadership of Captain Md Nasir Uddin, whose dedication ensured the success of the entire event. The celebration not only marked World Maritime Day but also reinforced the department’s commitment to blending practical exposure with academic excellence.
